... give their cars names - the crazy germans do that too!
My cars were named
"rolling disaster" (VW 1300)

"crash liner" (Opel Kadett C)

"Beetle's revenge" (Ford Granada 2.0)

"Ölbrenner" (translated "oil burner", Opel Rekord 2.3 D)

"don't touch!" (Granada 2.5 D)

"Gelbe Gefahr" (translated "yellow hazard", Kadett C)

"Heizöl-Ferrari" translated "fuel-oil Ferrari", Rekord 2.3 D)

"Sternenkreuzer" (translated "Star cruiser" - WOAH! -, MB W123 200D)

"Weißer Riese" (translated "white giant", MB 280S W108)
Only both of my smarts didn't get a name, due to the lack of personality... ;-)

Regards,

Robert

Hello Bernd B
Sorry for the delayed response. I've been away. Ufortunately on business not pleasure. It is interesting that if an Aussie really likes his or her car they will give it a name. A number of recent studies have shown that more and more people are purchasing cars that they feel are an extension of their own personalities. If that's the case, I really should be driving a Ford Edsel!! Take care. Ross

Hello Ross,
interesting that you in Oz name a car "her": it is like the french do ("la voiture").
Or is it related to beloved old cars only?
regards
Bernd B

Hi Claas
Thank you for the photo and web information. Your car is beautiful and I believe made even more beautiful because of the colour. I think it makes the Chrome and alloys stand out even more than normal (if that's possible!) Thank you so much for responding with the colour and paint code. Once my car is completed I'll be sure to email you some photos. Unfortunately, we're still a number of months away from her being completed. Ross

Hi Ross,
looks pretty much like "396G mittelblau" (middle blue) metallic. 396 is the colour code, G stands for the manufacturer Glasurit. You will find a good overview of all paintures of the 60`s and 70`s on this site:
www.sterntwiete.mparschau.de/html/lack_metallic.html The examples of the 396 coloured cars may look a LITTLE BIT too dark there.
I will send you a few pics of my 280 SE 3.5 in 396G mittelblau metallic via email.
Greetings to Brisbane - I love it since I've been there for 2 Months in spring 2004!!!
Claas
