Als Antwort auf: 3.5 Cp build data , numbers & manufacturer's plates geschrieben von Clem am 03. August 2006 09:27:32:
Let´s see:
1) where will I be able to obtain information showing all the specifications for my 3.5 coupe at the time it left the factory (amongst other things I need to establish the original paint colour and the correct wheels)?
If you can identify the VIN of the car and are able to present a certificate of ownership to MB they are able to provide the "Datenkarte" to you (for free) on which all option codes are stated among other information.
(2)both the manufacturer's plates in the engine bay are missing - I am talking about the two plates screwed to the body underneath the bonnet just in front of the radiator with chassis number and other data on them. I expect only Mercedes will be able to supply replacements? Who do I contact at Mercedes to get replacements?
I do not know, if these plates are available as original spare parts. Once having the above mentioned information it should be possible to get similar parts (remakes or lookalikes).
(3) on one other car I looked at there was also a manufacturer's plate on the engine left hand tappet cover - was this on all 3.5 coupe's? If so, this is also missing and I suppose I will need to find one of those too.
I personally only know this from exchange engines, but do not have to much experiences with coupes. Once having the "Datenkarte" you will also find the orininal motor number on it.
(4) I know that only about 240 right hand drive coupe's were built. Is there any way of finding out how many of these had both sunroof and air conditioner fitted as original as my car does? I think not many because so far I have not found one other right hand drive on the internet with both sunroof and air conditioner (not saying it's not there, just I have not found it - and I have been looking).
No clue! I think the necessary datas are not available. Neither publicly nor from MB.
(5) Finally, is there any way of finding out who the first owner of my car was?
No chance if you do not have already original documents like buying contract, service booklet or anything similar where the name ist stated. The first buyer is recorded at MB but they won´t tell you...
